GEO-PD infoThe Genetic Epidemiology of Parkinson's Disease Consortium, or GEO-PD, was created with funding from the Michael J. Fox Foundation (Edmond J. Safra Global Genetics Consortia Program). Our consortium includes investigators from 39 global sites, 22 countries, and six continents. We are sharing DNA specimens and data for more than 25,391 Parkinson's disease cases and 23,371 control subjects, and conducting collaborative studies of genetic risk factors for Parkinson's disease. We hope that these studies will also lead to additional methods to predict, prevent, and halt Parkinson's disease. We have several active projects, including: ¤Genetic-epidemiological confirmation of top hits of GWAS of Parkinson disease: A large multi-centre collaborative study . ¤Rare variant-common disease genotyping project ¤ Alpha-synuclein reduced-expression genotypes and survival in Parkinson's disease New members are actively sought for these and future projects, which will focus on genetic association studies of PD. Investigators are required to have data and DNA available for a minimum of 100 PD cases and 100 unrelated controls, and to be willing to share small aliquots of DNA from a small subsample for genotyping reliability studies. A list of GEO-PD investigators and their roles is provided here. |
